paxil + adderall interaction? i am on paxil (20mg) and have been for 6 years, i am thinking about setting up a doctors appointment soon to see if i can be put on adderall for ADD. i would like to know if it is a safe interaction? and i would like to hear personal stories if you have been on both medications

Eggmcmuffin replied: "I cannot give you any personal stories but I can give you the straight out drug drug interaction. Taking the drugs together can increase your risk of serotonin syndrome so it requires monitoring from your doctor. If you experience any symptoms of agitation, anxiety, shivering, tremor, tachycardia (increased heart rate), and various neuromuscular abnormalities (parkinson like symptoms) stop taking the medications and contact your physician."

Interaction between Paxil and Aspirin? Hi, I just started this morning to take the lowest daily dose of Paxil (10mg). I took 2 Aspirin(original strenght) tonight. They say "Paxil may cause bleeding problems, especially if taken with aspirin". Should I be concerned? Thanks. Thanks I know...I won't take aspirin anymore. But should I be concerned now?

Whisperbailey replied: "Stop taking aspirin."

Xena, Warrior Poo Flinger replied: "Aspirin, motrin, naproxin, any NSAID will cause your blood to thin and decrease clotting if you were to bleed, and so does Paxil. At 10 mg and 2 regular strength aspirin you're ok unless you're a hemopheliac, in which case you wouldn't be taking either. Switch to Tylenol."

nomimashoo replied: "Caution is advised because it may increase the risk for upper gastrointestinal bleeding. You shouldn't be concerned once in a while."

angiola replied: "You are taking aspirin for pain correct? (not for heart health right?) I wouldn't be concerned about a potential bleed, unless you have an active ulcer. Still look out for signs of a GI bleed like dark blood mixed with the stool, black or tarry stool, or red in your vomit. If you don't notice any of things you will probably be fine. Tylenol is the easiest on the stomach out of all of the over the counter medications, so I would recommend that pain next time."

paxil and adderall interaction? if prescribed would that be ok? it would be for ocd and add

jharpe21 replied: "not that i am aware of, no. but when you do go to your doctor to get the prescribtion, ask them, just to make sure. but i think you should be ok."

Kate from Drugs.com replied: "Amphetamine (Ingredient of Adderall) and Paxil (paroxetine) has a major drug-drug interaction. Generally avoid - several case reports have suggested that patients treated with serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SRIs) may exhibit an increased sensitivity to sympathomimetic agents. The mechanism of interaction is unclear. Some sympathomimetic agents (e.g., amphetamines) may possess serotonergic activity and should generally not be administered with SRIs because of the additive risk of serotonin syndrome, which is a rare but serious and potentially fatal condition thought to result from hyperstimulation of brainstem 5-HT1A receptors. Management- In general, amphetamines and other sympathomimetic appetite suppressants should not be combined with serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Close monitoring for enhanced sympathomimetic effects is recommended if these agents must be used together. Patients should also be monitored for signs and symptoms of excessive serotonergic activity such as CNS irritability, altered consciousness, confusion, myoclonus, ataxia, abdominal cramping, hyperpyrexia, shivering, pupillary dilation, diaphoresis, hypertension, and tachycardia. Dextroamphetamine (Ingredient of Adderall) and Paxil (paroxetine) has a major drug-drug interaction. Generally avoid - Several case reports suggest that patients treated with serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SRIs) may exhibit an increased sensitivity to sympathomimetic agents."

Drug interaction - Tryptophan in protein and Paxil? I have been taking Whey Protien that has 437 mg of Tryptophan per scoop and I take about 6 scoops per day. I also take a prescrption Paxil which is a SSRI is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Paroxetine affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced. Paroxetine is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). I have been feeling kind of dizzy and different the past 1-2 weeks and didn't know what it could be from then I read that you are not suppose to take SSRI with Tryptophan because it can cause Serotonin syndrome -Serotonin syndrome which is pretty much too much serotonin - My only question is I only take 10mg of paxil a day and have been taking this protein for about 3 months. Do you think its this Serotonin Syndrome is kicking in now or would it already have happened? Anyone else take Paxil with a lot of protein and have this happen? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Casey replied: "I have read pretty in-depth about serotonin syndrome / 'serotonin storm' before, and it's quite the serious thing. However, I don't know much about the combination of the SSRI and Tryptophan, so I would suggest talking to your or a doctor (the one who perscribed you the later of the to drugs, perhaps), before quitting either drug, and also tell him about your serotonin syndrome idea. And you should do it rather quickly.... However, if you were not perscribed these drugs (easy to get or illegally obtained), then perhaps you could stop using them? Or one of them? Or something? There is a website you can go to, called Bluelight. It's at Bluelight.ru, I'd suggest registering and posting your question in the basic drug discussion. It's in a Y!A style type of thing, but it's forums and completely about various drugs (per ion, non, etc). But be wary of some of the answers, as, just like here, anyone can post."

Can I give my dog Benadryl for insect stings if he is taking Paxil? He is a 20 lb Boston Terrier and has been on 20 mg of Paxil for about a month. He rolled around in the backyard and came in with at least a dozen bites (possibly from ants?) around his right eye. The area is swollen and itchy. I'd like to give him Benadryl for the pain and swelling, but not if it will interact with his other medication. Our veterinarian's office is closed and I can't call to check for interactions.

C.D. replied: "Call an emergency vet."

Catherine B replied: "There is no significant interactions between these two medications. But really, why is your dog on Paxil? And are you sure that the reaction is allergic?"

lila replied: "Well, I'm no vet, but we gave our dog benadryl for food allergies. You should contact your local vet and make sure he's not allergic to the drug. What other medications does he take? Do you have his medical records?"

russellmaniac replied: "I watched a program called "Pets on Prozac" years ago, but I had no idea that Paxil was being prescribed to dogs nowadays! As far as the interaction with the Benadryl, I know in a human it is ok to mix it, but I would wait and consult with your vet!"

Lovin Someone replied: "Thats a ? for your vet to answer i think you should call them!! :)"

curious replied: "I give my dog Benadryl for allergies. But she isn't on any other medications. I would check with the vet."

Question about Librium, Remeron, and Paxil possible interactions---please help? I am taking care of an 83 year old lady, and her doctor recently started her on these three medications. Since then, she has been hallucinating, becoming more confused, and less independent than she previously was. I have done many searches on the internet for drug interactions between these medicines, and have had no luck. I'm a nurses aide, so I don't know a lot of medications. Please help me to help my client. Thanks in advance!!

RoseMary S replied: "I WOULD CONTACT HER DOCTOR RIGHT AWAY OR CALL THE PHARMACIST."

Interactions between Paxil (SSRI), Diane 35 (birth control) & Propranolol (Beta Blocker)? Does anyone know if it's safe to take Paxil (10mg, SSRI) and Diane 35 with Propranolol (10mg, Beta Blocker)?

Menthoids replied: "Sorry cannot find an interaction with Diane 35 however...PAROXETINE HYDROCHLORIDE (in Paxil) may interact with PROPRANOLOL HYDROCHLORIDE (in Propranolol) Paroxetine may increase the effect that propranolol has on the heart. This could cause the heart to beat at a slower rate than normal. Symptoms of this condition include dizziness, chest pain, and fainting. If paroxetine and propranolol are taken together, your doctor may want to monitor you closely to make sure that your heart is functioning properly. If you are experiencing problems, your doctor may consider using an alternative to propranolol. Discuss this potential interaction with your healthcare provider at your next appointment, or sooner if you think you are having problems. This interaction is poorly documented and is considered moderate in severity."

I take the medicines Trileptal, Paxil, Abilify. And I was wondering if taking a diet pill like xenadrine is ok? Are there any drug interactions with these pills?

Xawpnsr replied: "You should check this out this way that I tried. It works just amazing for me and I lost 15 pounds in 30 days. You can find more information at"

Interactiong between Paxil CR and weed? I just started taking Paxil CR today, but I'm a weed smoker. I smoke about 2-3 hits from a bowl every night before I go to bed. Is this going to make me sick or interact with the meds a lot? I personally don't think 2-3 hits from a bowl is a lot, but I also never taken it with pre ion drugs. Please don't come on here and tell me weed is bad, to each his own. I just want to know what it's going to do with the interaction between Paxil and weed, if any.

W E replied: "Taking pot and anti-depressants is a bad idea. The 2 drugs will be working against each other, and you will probably feel worse. It is always a bad idea to mix psychiatric drugs and self-medication (this includes pot, the harder illegal drugs, alcohol, and over the counter drugs) I personally never take any medicine without talking to my psychiatrist first. You never know what the side effects will be. Check this out:"

meggus31 replied: "You should be OK. I take more than one psych med and have more than 2-3 hits every day."

rockeylvr<3 replied: "Well i think that the combination of both is bad because they are both working to do different things. The weed is a depressant and the Paxil is going to up the serotonin. You should really not do that do one or the other because it could be dangerous. Good luck."
