Claritin D with alcohol? Can I do it? It doesn't say do not take with alcohol on the box. It's the Non Drowsy 24 hour kind. Because my allergies suck and I'm going to be taking these every day in the spring and I'm not going to stop drinking for 3 months. So I was just wondering, because if it's bad, I won't take one on the days I'm going out.

Travis replied: "if it doesnt say it..youre pretty much safe just dont over do it"

Eric replied: "NO, it is very dangerous and may result in bleeding"

Ashleigh M replied: "why the Hell do you want to do that?!?!?!? stupid!"

joshtheguitarfreak2 replied: "still not a great idea. Ive done it and it made me REALLY sleepy even though its the non-drowsy kind. Dont drive if you do."

Jeff replied: "If you read the label and didn't say to avoid it you should be alright. Just remember that drugs and alcohol effect different people differently! Don't over do it the first time, and don't drive only if you only have a couple of drinks until you know how it effects you. If it gives you urges for a tall guy, give me a shout (lol)! PS that was humor, not chatting!"

Can you have alcoholic beverages while taking Claritin-D 24 hour? There aren't any warnings anywhere about consuming alcohol while taking Claritin-D 24 hour. It's Mother's day today AND my first wedding anniversary and I'd like to have a drink at our lunch out to red lobster and then later for dinner at our bonfire. So I need to know if I shouldn't take the Caritin at all today?

william replied: "no"

luna replied: "I wouldn't chance it. Maybe you could skip your Claritin for 24 hours."

Steph replied: "If you're talking about one or two drinks it shouldn't be a problem. If you're talking about getting crazy drunk then that might be a problem. Call your local pharmacist and ask them for sure, but I've never heard of anything bad happening to anyone who drank after taking Claritin D."

santanaesq replied: "I'm not a doctor, but I have allergies. The "D" part in claritin is for decongestant, and that ingredient is Pseudoephedrine (PSE) aka Sudafed. PSE and alcohol taken independently have mood-altering effects. Taking them together could give you effects much greater than what you're used to taking them independently. It sounds like you've never combined them before, so I think it would probably mess you up. Another option (what I do) would be to buy separate claritin and PSE. I take the Claritin daily and PSE as needed. Happy mothers day/ anniversary."

Claritin and alcohol, is it bad to mix them? I just took claritin D and I was planning on drinking tonight but I'm not sure if its ok. Also does claritin make you light headed at all cause I feel light headed and I haven't done anything to cause that?

Joey P replied: "i wouldnt just to be safe."

Dave replied: "Do not mix with alcohol. Do not mix any kind of pills with alcohol either."

purplefaerydust replied: "You shouldn't take your Claritin pills WITH alcohol but if you've had one earlier in the day, it should be fine. Your pharmacist is a good source of information on over-the-counter drug interactions as well as their side effects. Just ask someone at the pharmacy counter. You may feel light-headed because of your allergies, or because of the pseudoephedrine in the Claritin-D. If you really feel poorly, drinking is probably not a good idea tonight."

I apparently have severe allerigies (hayfever) and was told that I need to take Claritin D and use an allergy? nasal spray such as veramyst and nasonex everyday. Was anyone else given the same diagnosis and treatment plan? Also, are there any long-term effects of using Claritin-D and Nasonex/Veramyst everyday for the rest of my life? I also read somewhere that Claritin-D should not be taken if you drink alcohol, should I not take it the days I drink alcohol??

LeaLea replied: "I have taken ClaritinD. A little tip to save you some money... Just buy the regular Claritin and buy some store brand Sudophedrine separately. Its the same thing as taking ClaritinD, but way cheaper. I have never heard that you can not take it with alcohol and have never had any problem doing so. I have been prescribed a nasal spray, but did not use it long, it worked, but made my sinuses irritated."

Lexie replied: "I've never been diagnosed with hay fever but I do use Claratin-D, i use the Redi-Tabs and they work wonders for me. I've never taken Nasonex/Veramyst but I have used Rinocourt, or something like that and it does seem to work well. There shouldn't be any long-term effects, good luck!"

Shane replied: "take zertec its very good and fast if u want nasel spary take astepro nasel spray very good if not then get a allergy test done 2 no what 2 stay away from most commonly plant, dust, mold, and etc"

pennypincher replied: "Actually, you should not need both. Nasonex alone should take care of your allergies."

Tricyclics from Claritin-D showed up in my drug test. Now I'm suspended from school... ? Last Wednesday I was pulled out of gym (Period 3) and taken to the nurse, the nurse told me to walk a straight line and all that dumb crap. This all happened because i stayed up all night getting a project done and i was half asleep in my first 2 classes and some teacher thought i was on drugs. It ended up in me having to get a drug test. I was clean except for Alcohol and Tricyclics. The Alcohol was from NyQuil i took the previous night, and the Tricyclics I believe are from the Claritin-D i take every day for my allergies. They thought I was taking drugs and suspended me from school, planning to make me attend counseling. I went in today with my mom and talked with the principal and explained to him that the Tricyclics came from Claritin-D and he said ok and removed the suspension, but after school my mom got a phone call and said I'm suspended again, because they don't believe they are in it. What i showed him was this - Look on the box you'll see "Loratadine 10mg" - Read the first 8 words. Now scroll down or click on Mechanisms of action (Or go to ) now read the first 5 words. I am aware that Wikipedia is not a very credible website, but other websites say it as well. Now what I need to know is, how can I prove to them that the Tricyclics are in the Claritin-D that I take every day of my life, And that I'm not a drug addict and don't need to go to counseling? Arielle S, the school called an emergency room doctor and asked their school "doctor" and they both said that don't, but they have no proof. About the lawyer thing.. I'm going to get one before I get sent to counseling :) Jakylnn, Its OTC but i used to have it as a pre ion. Maybe I'll see if my pediatrician can do something about this.

Arielle S replied: "wow, sorry you have to go thru that. i would have the school call a lab or a doc that knows their stuff and ask them, maybe see a lawyer too lol"

Jaklynn replied: "Is your claritin pre ion or OTC? If its a pre ion, talk to your doctor and ask him to call the school. If its OTC, I would go speak to a pharmacist at your local drugstore, who can confirm that tricyclics are actually in claritin. I would just recommend asking your doctor or your pharmacist to call the school or write a letter. Oh and with the pharmacist- make sure you speak to an actual pharmacist with a degree/certification/whatever and not joe shmoe that works in the pharmacy. This is probably your best bet, they cant argue with the experts!"

majormomma replied: "The tricyclics part of the drug screen refer to tricyclic antidepressants (such as Elavil), not tricyclic antihistamines. Claritin-D would not have caused a false-positive test. While Nyquil does contain a significant amount of alcohol, you would have had to have drunk an awful lot of it for it to show up 12 hours later on a drug screen."
